(b. 1990, The Netherlands)

Naea Esma is a Moroccan-Dutch visual artist based in New York City. From her Lower East Side studio, she creates works with metal, glass, and found objects, translating internal experiences and the complexities of mental health into physical forms.

Growing up between two cultures, her practice focuses on hybridity. She uses an intuitive process to explore the tension between fragile and industrial materials. This methodology spans both her gallery work and ZEEGRIJS, her platform for collectible objects and wearable art.

Naea studied fashion in Amsterdam before moving to NYC. Here, she taught herself metal fabrication before expanding her technical practice into glasswork at UrbanGlass. Her work has been exhibited at the Agnes Varis Art Center in Brooklyn, featuring presentations of Where i Wear Walls and The Chair That Counts.
